Location: Located 541 km from the Capital Male’, Addu is the southernmost atoll of the Maldives which also fall into the Southern Hemisphere.
It consists of several large islands ringing a deep lagoon. There are 4 districts in the City; Hithadhoo which is the largest populated and the administrative district, Maradhoo, Feydhoo and Hulhumeedhoo. Total Population is estimated to be more than 33,000 as per the last census.
Addu is one of the oldest populated islands in the Maldives, tracing settlements as far back as 2000 BCE.
The Royal Navy established a base ("Port T") – later RAF Gan from 1957 – on the island of Gan (Addu City) (pronounced “Gun”) in 1941, during World War II. During the Cold War it was used as an outpost. Addu International Airport is now operated in the island of Gan.
Climate: Because of its proximity to the equator, Addu experiences a very smooth tropical monsoon climate with year-round warm weather. Temperatures generally range between 26 °C and 29 °C
Shore Area/ Lagoon : Addu is geographically unique in the Maldives archipelago. The beaches are long, and island are closely tied up is circular format. Thus inter atoll, the seas are generally very calm and lagoons are shallow.
Transportation: Addu has some the longest roads in the Maldives. The link road in Addu extends to 16-kilometres (9.9 mi) from Hithadhoo to the Airport Island, Gan.
The same roads intersect Maradhoo, and Maradhoo islands via a causeway, which is the second longest paved causeway in the Maldives.
Generally, most places are in walking distance.
Air Travel: Sri Lankan Airlines is expected to reschedule their flights from 31st of August 2021 and will have weekly flights between Colombo and Gan.
Additionally the South African Airlines, Czech Republic Airlines, and Indigo Airlines operates charter flights from time to time.
Domestic flights are operated from Male’ and other islands throughout the Maldives, and are operated on a daily basis via the National carrier Maldivian

Hotels & Resorts: Addu offers a varied choice for accommodation, from luxurious resort to modest guesthouses.
Healthcare: Addu Equatorial Hospital (AEH), located in Hithadhoo is the only tertiary hospital operated outside the greater Male’ area and covers for most medical services and equipment. There also a number of other public health centers and private medical services providers throughout the city.
The competition is open for Schools and University students. Participants can choose to participate as a single skull or join in as

Following are the eligibility criteria for participants to compete in the competition.
1) Teams from School and Universities should certify that the participants are bonified students of their respective Institution
2) Each School / University should certify the date of birth of each participant
3) The age will be calculated with base the year as of 1st November 2021
4) Teams from any School or University from Asian Countries are entitled to send athletes to participate in this Historical Interschool Beach Sprint.
